Dubai sets another world record, for clothes donated to charity
17 September, 2014
Dubai has made its way to the Guinness Book of World Records for the 128th time. This time for collecting over 146,400 pieces of clothes donated for charity, the most ever anywhere in the world. “This beat the previous record of 129,302 clothes held by Japan on 7 July 2014,” SamerKhallouf, the Guinness World Records Project Manager, Middle East and North Africa, told XPRESS. As many as 146,411 pieces of clothes were collected overall, washed, packed and put in boxes before being handed over to the UAE Red Crescent Society, as part of ‘Share a touch of love this Ramadan’ campaign by Unilever Middle East. The campaign, in its fifth year now, saw as many as eight ‘in-mall stands’ set up across the country for roughly eight weeks between 2 July and 31 August earlier this year.
