Cycling in Dubai
Not only is Dubai a great place to watch elite cycling, with The Dubai Tour growing in reputation every year – it is a haven for amateur cyclists, too. With a welcoming velo community, bike hire for families, and trails for enthusiasts of all levels – including the 178km Dubai Cycling Track slated for completion in October – ours is a great city to explore on two wheels.
Explore Dubai on two wheels
Hop on your bike and join Dubai’s two-wheeled revolution
In recent years our emirate has made great strides in developing its cycling infrastructure and nowadays Dubai is no longer a place where cyclists are short of options. With a purpose-built cycling track spanning the whole coastline due for completion in October 2015, plenty of sports stores and bicycle hire companies already available to provide all the gear, and even its own tour for the professionals, it's fair to say that Dubai is well on the way to becoming a cyclist’s paradise.
Cycling clubs and tracks
Dubai has plenty of options for amateurs, ranging from the beginner to the seasoned cyclist. For a convenient way to hire bikes for mini tours, BYKY Stations can be found across our city in places such as Downtown, Dubai Marina and on Palm Jumeirah island. All you have to do is go to a station and quote the number of the bike you want to rent via the hotline or mobile app. Rental charges can be made via credit card and you are free to return the bike to any BYKY Station around town. It is a fun way to explore Dubai’s various neighbourhoods (and exercise in the process).
Cycle Safe Dubai was established to bring together cyclists of all ages and abilities, the club is a community where like-minded people can meet and share their enjoyment of two-wheeled transport.
With various ride routes ranging from a social everyone-welcome ride each Monday at the Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park to an advanced 80km ride out to luxury desert resort Bab Al Shams every Saturday, the club has something for everyone.
Our city is set to welcome a new bike track shortly, adding 23km of track to our network. The project will link the existing cycling track of Seih Assalam, past Al Barari and up to Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park, bringing the total length of bike tracks in our emirate to more than 178 kilometres.
Cycling supplies and pit stops
While Dubai is hardly short of sports shops located in the city's popular malls, for the ultimate cycle gear shopping destination, The Cycle Hub is a one-stop shop run by cyclists, for cyclists.
Found in Dubai Motor City, the giant store has all the latest bikes, apparel and accessories available to buy and hire, and a highly qualified team of specialist service and sales staff on hand to offer expert advice.
And it is not just the equipment that The Cycle Hub offers. The shop also organises its own weekly rides - every Saturday departing at 5.30am - with an easy 36km ride for beginners and a more challenging 60km, brisk-paced ride for more experienced cyclists.
There is also an on-site cafe, The Cycle Bistro, which specialises in the Paleo diet, serving up healthy food with the energy to fuel even the most strenuous of rides.
