Whether for a special night out – or a full week of celebrations – reserve your table at one of Dubai's best restaurants. Frequented by those in the know and delighting the palates of the city's tastemakers, each of the following fine-dining establishments will make for a mouth-wateringly memorable meal.

La Petite Maison | upscale French fare

Launched in 2010, La Petite Maison is as much in-vogue today as during its opening week. Take your time people-watching at the bar before being seated, noting that fellow patrons – including visiting celebrities, ubiquitous fashion bloggers, and some of the city's highest rollers – have all had to patiently wait their turn on the restaurant's month-long wait list. The menu is Provençal French with a Mediterranean bent, and dishes are designed to be shared – as reflected in the generous serving sizes. Favourites include the salt-baked, line-caught sea bass with artichokes and tomatoes, and decadent French toast with spiced ice-cream to finish.

Clé Dubai | Middle East meets Michelin

The brainchild of Michelin-starred Aussie chef Greg Malouf, Clé deconstructs centuries-old Arabic favourites with contemporary sensibility, making for a satisfying fine-dining experience. Sitting at the low-slung lounges, diners can choose from three mezze options or order a la carte, with sharing plates of dukkah foie gras terrine with date-fig relish, and baharat-spiced lamb shoulder in smouldering hay and goat's cheese tempting tastebuds.

The Farm | an urban oasis

It's a little bit of a trek out from the city, but this urban escape-turned-secret garden is more than worth the drive. Surrounded by an oasis of lush greenery and a lily-adorned lake, the restaurant offers an expected hint of green in the surrounding dry landscape. The upmarket cafe practices a farm-to-table philosophy, with hearty and wholesome menu items like lemon rosemary corn-fed chicken with morning glory on frequent rotation. Call at least a week in advance for weekend bookings: lunchtime seating is often fraught, plus the venue is frequently booked out for wedding parties.

Nobu | world-class Japanese

Let's be real – an informal survey of Nobu frequenters shows that most of us are showing up to tuck into the Japanese eatery's seared black cod, paired with sweet yuzu miso. While the moreish signature dish undoubtedly shines in Michelin-starred chef Nobu Matsuhisa's kitchen, the celebrated brand has a few more tricks up its sleeve at its Dubai location at Atlantis The Palm, with Arabic flavours like labneh and fattoush finding their way onto plates. When the evenings are comfortably balmy, book a table out in the magical garden courtyard.

Qbara | extravagant Arabic fine dining

The city's premier Arabic restaurant, Qbara is much more than a meal. The intricate light show projected on the restaurant's walls is something you must see for yourself. The tasting menu is also much more than the name suggests, with full-size dishes unloaded at the table one by one. Highlights include the lobster kibbeh with avocado labneh, and an equally rich plate of herb marinated roasted bone marrow with botarga and hot Arabic bread. Be prepared to pace yourself, though: unlike other similar venues, waitstaff expect guests to settle into their seats for an hours-long feast.

Table 9 | fine-dining with a pedigree

Formerly of Gordon Ramsay’s now-defunct Terre, head chefs Nick Alvis and Scott Prince kick-started their own fine-dining hotspot to rave reviews. While the founding duo has since left the concept, head chef Darren Velvick (another protégé from Ramsay's stable) is not just successfully carrying the torch, but has introduced his own traditional British style into the mix. The menu doesn't give too much away, with each course denoted by the leading single ingredient, and not much else. Luckily, the superb staff is on hand to guide hesitant guests through courses of hearty joints of meat, and decidedly delicate versions of comforting desserts.
