Escape the Heat
When the mercury rises, it's time to make like the locals and hit the malls. While Dubai is renowned for its amazing shopping, the city’s major malls offer much more than just retail therapy. These entertaining detours turn a trip to the shops into a full day of family fun.

Summer fun in the malls
Keep cool with indoor skiing and ice-skating
Want to chill out in wintry climes? That is possible in Dubai! Grab your skis and take to the slopes of Ski Dubai in Mall of the Emirates. While you’re there, say hello to the snow park’s resident penguins. Over at The Dubai Mall, the Olympic-sized Dubai Ice Rink is open for business no matter how high temperatures climb outside. The rink is suitable for all ages, with training frames available for beginners. Skate to top 40 hits, or get tips on perfecting your figure of eight from the on-site experts. Check the mall's website for themed on-ice activities and hockey matches.
Travel back to the age of the dinosaurs
Who would of thought that within the modern walls of The Dubai Mall lie prehistoric treasures? Make a stop at Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo to meet the aquarium’s King Croc - a five-metre long Australian crocodile. Afterwards, wander across the mall to The Souk, where you’ll come face to face with a 155-million-year-old fossil of an Amphicoelias brontodiplodocus dinosaur, which is better known by its nickname, the Dubai Dino.
Get a dose of local art and culture
From the Mall of the Emirates, arty types can wander over to Dubai Community Theatre and Art Centre (DUCTAC), the city's go-to for stage entertainment and all-ages performances. It features a grand, 543-seat theatre and dance workshop studios, and there is a gallery space with a rotating programme of exhibitions.
Fun activities for kids and families
For all-in family entertainment, Mall of the Emirates' Magic Planet will keep kids from every age group happy. The city's largest indoor games centre, Magic Planet features skill-testers, rides, the UAE's first 4D cinema and the one-of-a-kind RoboCoaster. Video gamers will find something to challenge their skills at Sega Republic, a 7,060-square-metre indoor amusement park in The Dubai Mall that features 14 full-size rides and more than 170 games. For thrill-seekers, iFly Dubai at Mirdif City Centre will send pulses sky-high in their wind tunnel – a pressurised tube that mimics the sensation of skydiving, raising and dropping riders three metres in the air.
