Geales Restaurant and Lounge

Le Royal Meridien's marina-side terrace offers posh nosh - poached eggs Benedict, truffled eggs, and brioche French toast. Geales is unashamedly British, with the breakfast go-to dishes accompanied by platters of grilled seafood, fish and chips, chicken liver pâté, roast beef, and of course, Yorkshire puddings with little jugs of real gravy. Save space for the Eton mess, with its abundance of sweet strawberries, or a more rib-sticking sticky date pudding.

The Maine Oyster Bar and Grill

LA firm favourite with Dubai's hipster crowd, The Maine is also home to one of the city's lesser known brunches, with its under-the-radar location literally beneath the DoubleTree hotel and away from foot traffic, making for a more relaxed, rather than rowdy Friday.

Oysters are, obviously the specialty. They are plump and plentiful, served natural, with a delicious topping, or as part of the fried oyster omelette. The kitchen also excels in other seafood, with the fish tacos alone worth booking a table for. The dining area is chic and breezy, with seating for two arranged across the black and white chequered tiled flooring, and also on the terrace and lawns.

Intersect By Lexus

Focusing on local ingredients and organic product, the brunch menu at Intersect by Lexus varies according to what catches the eye of Chef Tomas Reger at the farmers’ market that week.

Tucked away in Dubai's business quarter, the decidedly non-corporate restaurant makes good use of its open kitchen, with diners encouraged to select their entrees from the pan or grill, before settling back to enjoy the a la carte mains that follow.

While the dishes are rarely the same week to week, previous main offerings have included seared scallops with butternut squash, Chilean sea bass with yuzu-glazed turnips, and slow-cooked beef short ribs with a celeriac puree.

Diner are encouraged to linger, with cosy booths side-by-side with well-stocked bookshelves, and live acoustic music continuing until the evening.

Atelier M

Boasting the best view of Dubai Marina, Atelier M is found on the seventh floor of the Pier 7 tower, the gourmet precinct’s only fine-dining restaurant.

in-article-atelier-food

Atelier M's Mediterranean menu extends to its Friday brunch, with star dishes including a rustic herb-adorned, corn-fed baby roast chicken with grilled zucchini, and delicately flavoured sea bass fillet.

A more cultivated version of the Friday Brunch, Atelier M's a la carte offerings come in waves, degustation-style. Entertainment takes the form of a rotation of live performances, with smooth jazz and acoustic sounds adding to the ambience but not drowning out conversation.

After the dessert plates have been cleared, make sure to take the mirrored elevator to the rooftop for a final treat above the marina's yachts.

Wakame

Despite its dusk starting time, Wakame offers a more relaxed brunch experience than some of its Japanese contemporaries. It delivers on both an excellent Tokyo-inspired menu and a well-planned dining room that gives guests space to breathe.

Wakame specialises in out-of-the-ordinary dim sum and sushi, with a seemingly-unlimited number of dumplings, sashimi, nigiri and rolls presented to your table, along with accompaniments like seaweed salad and edamame. The snow crab and truffle maki are worth doubling back for (keep an eye out for the fiery and theatrical presentation of the speciality flame maki). Follow up with a Japanese fusion selection of desserts such as miso-caramel cheesecake and assorted mochi ice-creams.

Firebird Diner by Michael Mina

Retro-style soul food is all the rage at this upmarket diner's version of brunch, named for the shining hot-rod sculptures implanted firmly in the Four Seasons’ wall.

Sitting cheek-to-cheek in the fire engine red cushioned booths, guests are served a smorgasbord of American favourites, prepared with Michelin-star chef Michael Mina's distinctive flair (and prices). There's the classic all-American burger, complete with a secret sauce and duck-fat fries, fried Buffalo chicken wings from the Deep South, New England lobster rolls and Philly cheese steak.
