Finding housing in Dubai is easy and distinctive neighbourhoods are found throughout the city. Whether you use a broker or search the classified ads, be sure to research the neighbourhoods well, and then choose the district that suits you and your family best. A young, single professional may be looking for nightlife and entertainment, while a family may be considering whether an area is child-friendly and close to schools. Many new arrivals rent at first, and most landlords require the entire year’s rent paid up front.
Beyond the Creek
South and southwest of the Creek are residential areas with a range of accommodation types, from villas to apartments. For example, located south of Central Dubai, Mirdif is an enclave of villa compounds and low-rise apartment blocks, far away from the congestion and traffic of the rest of the city. The area has a range of affordable apartments for sale and for lease. The Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai’s latest technology Free Zone, has a variety of residential villas and apartments for lease and for sale.
By the Creek
The bustling areas by the Creek are Deira and Bur Dubai, which are very congested and densely populated, yet full of life. You’ll find a large number of tourist attractions and hotels here, as tourists enjoy being close to the historic sites, shopping malls and government buildings. Accommodations here are fairly inexpensive when compared to other areas in the city.
Jumeriah runs parallel to the Sheikh Zayed Road, leading down to the beach. This is one of the well-established tourist and residential areas of the city, where beautiful villas, hotels, schools, supermarkets, beach clubs, parks, banks and health clinics are all located. Villas in this district, which typically have between three and five bedrooms, are either stand-alone or within small compounds that share facilities like tennis courts, pool and gym.
Once you leave the Jumeirah area, you discover residential developments extending on either side of Sheikh Zayed Road. These include Emirate Hills, the Springs and the Meadows, Al Barsha, Jebel Ali Village and the Marina, just to name a few. Here you’ll find a complete mix of apartments and villas. Other popular developments include Arabian Ranches, Discovery Gardens and Green Community in Dubai Investment Park.
