Helal Almarri: The Dubai tourism boss on delivering 20m visitors and building 160,000 new hotel rooms
19 June, 2015
When it comes to challenges, Helal Almarri has more than most people. Charged with delivering 20 million visitors to the emirate by 2020, the director general of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is juggling many balls: up to 160,000 new hotel rooms need to be built, average daily room rates need to stay around the $185 a night mark and visitor growth must keep at between 7 to 9 per cent a year. But make no mistake: if anyone can deliver the goods, Almarri can.
