Star Trek Dubai
The beauty of Dubai’s buildings has already amazed the world. A number of films have come to Dubai and filmed scenes in the city, but the latest to stop in is Star Trek 3. The global city makes its way onto the big screen once again as the backdrop to a variety of scenes.

Visit Dubai a.k.a Starbase Yorktown
Step into the future in the latest Star Trek Beyond – with Dubai’s cityscape playing a leading role as a vertical city in deep space. The film’s producers searched the globe looking for the right backdrop and settled on Dubai’s futuristic and technologically advanced cityscape. ‘We came searching for the future and we found it in Dubai’ said Executive Producer Jeffrey Chernov when he visited the city. Star Trek Beyond joins a cluster of hit movies to choose Dubai as a location.
Dubai…resistance is futile
Meydan Racetrack, The Burj Al Arab and even the renowned Sheikh Zayed Road are some of the locations featured in the hit movie. The crew filmed for six months in Dubai bringing stars like Chris Pine, Idris Elba, Zachary Pinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana and John Cho, as well as recruiting local actors from Dubai.
‘Siteseeing’ in Dubai
Chernov was said to have been attracted to the city’s ultramodern look during the filming of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. They needed the look of a vertical city, a location, which could evoke the feeling of a future space frontier. It was a case of ‘scripts dictate locations or great locations dictate the script’. He would apparently drive around with his team in Dubai, spot something stop and say: “We have to figure out how to put that in the movie”.
See Starbase Yorktown in real life:
Dubai provides the backdrop to a variety of scenes in Star Trek Beyond as a Starbase called Yorktown, right on the edge of Federation space. The Enterprise docks up at Yorktown, and the scene is set for some sci-fi action. As Chris Pine who plays Captain Kirk in Star Trek Beyond said, “Dubai looks like whatever tomorrow would be… it’s ‘futureland’…”
