With a profile that's instantly recognisable, the Burj Khalifa is an iconic symbol of Dubai. While the tallest building in the world is justifiably famous for its panoramic views of the city, getting a good vantage point of the tower itself is as big a part of the Dubai experience – especially when it’s illuminated in the evenings. Here are some of the best places to enjoy stunning Burj Khalifa vistas over a delicious meal.

See the Burj Khalifa from casual dining hotspots

One of the best places to see the Burj Khalifa in cooler months is from The Dubai Mall’s excellent collection of casual dining restaurants, specifically their outside seating areas. From establishments such as Social House or Wafi Gourmet, you’ll find the Burj Khalifa towering over you, along with an unbeatable view of The Dubai Fountain. Venues higher up in mall, such as Italian restaurant Gia, can also give you a close-up of the tower, provided you’re seated on the terrace.

For a slightly more formal dining experience, make your way to Souk Al Bahar, across a footbridge from The Dubai Mall. Here waterfront restaurants such as renowned Lebanese eatery Abd El Wahab, or seafood specialists BiCE Mare, offer spectacular Burj Khalifa and fountain views. Be sure to book ahead if possible, and ask for the best seats in the house.

Enjoy fine dining and lounges with a view

Some of Dubai’s best hotels also feature restaurants and lounges with memorable views. The Address Sky View hotel lives up to its name with uninterrupted panoramas of Burj Khalifa, especially from the 54th floor, which is home to Southeast Asian superstar venue CÉ LA VIE. Similarly, on the other side of Downtown Dubai, Neos lounge overlooks both Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Fountain from the 63rd floor of The Address Downtown.

For more high-level positions, try the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel; two of its 68th-floor restaurants, Hotel Cartagena and Weslodge Saloon, offer views over not only the Burj Khalifa, but also a large swathe of Sheikh Zayed Road’s impressive skyline.

Back at ground level, The Palace Downtown hotel features a combination of traditional Arabian design and phenomenal perspectives across the water to the Burj Khalifa. Choose from restaurants such as Asian-themed Thiptara, Asado steakhouse or the Fai lounge for a more relaxed ambience. Also, at nearby Dubai Opera is The Loft, a chic lounge by the foot of the Burj Khalifa.

Unwind at rooftop venues that overlook Burj Khalifa

One of the best things to do in Dubai is spending the evening at a rooftop lounge or restaurant, watching the city’s skyline light up around you. Above 2.0 at the Sofitel Dubai Downtown is as close as you can get to the Burj Khalifa, and a great place to relax while taking in the sights.

Nearby in the same neighbourhood, Taj Dubai also boasts a unique rooftop experience at Treehouse. Lined with trees, this lounge stands out for its striking setting that blends natural elements with chic urban design, carrying over its wood-themed aesthetic to the rest of its decor.

On Sheikh Zayed Road find the Shangri-La Hotel, and its Ikandy Ultralounge on a rooftop terrace; enjoy the buzzing atmosphere amplified by the spectacular sight of Burj Khalifa. While over at City Walk, the Look Up lounge at La Ville Hotel & Suites offers views with a more relaxed atmosphere, as well as an infinity pool accessible to both guests and visitors.

Admire Burj Khalifa from further afield

As the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa is awe-inspiring close up – but it is equally impressive from a distance, when seen as part of Dubai’s iconic skyline.

Thanks to the city’s urban geography, there are plenty of great spots to see the skyline, but one of the best views is from Dubai Festival City next to Dubai Creek. You're spoilt for excellent choices here, but a great starting point is Choix Patisserie and Restaurant at the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City, headed by Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire.

A Dubai landmark in its own right, the pyramid-shaped Raffles Dubai hotel also boasts spectacular skyline views. The hotel’s award-winning Japanese restaurant Tomo offers a combination of delicious, innovative food and a terrific view of the Burj Khalifa.

Read our guide to the city's most photogenic spots and start planning for an unforgettable family holiday in Dubai.
