Billing itself as the ‘World’s Leading Dance Event’, Sensation returns to Dubai on 11 November, but this time to a new location – the desert of Bab Al Shams resort. Thousands of party goers are expected to gather in the specially-created arena for a sensational show from a star-studded line-up of the most talented international DJs, while the sensory experience will be added to with extravagant aerial acts and a light and laser show.
Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival
The 15th edition of the Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival is taking place on 22-24 February 2017. Warming up in the aisles of Dubai Media City Amphitheatre will be some of the biggest names in the world of pop, indie, rock, reggae and, of course, jazz. Expect sell-out crowds for all three days of the festival as previous acts included the likes of Santana, David Gray and Sting.
Created by the founding father of the iconic Cirque du Soleil, Franco Dragone, comes La Perle – Dubai’s first aqua-based show. With the stage being a gigantic pool holding 2.5million litres of water, watch daredevil acrobats and artists dive from 35 metres high, swing at speeds of four metres per second and generally wow the crowds as they perform death-defying aerial and aquatic tricks. Even Dragone himself says La Perle will be the most technically advanced theatre production that he has ever produced. Shows are expected to start early 2017 and will take place in a 1,300-seater theatre within Al Habtoor City.
Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF)
Walk the red carpet from 7-14 December and take your seats for a world premiere or a debut from a promising young director at the city’s annual film festival. Now in its 13th year, DIFF is the region’s most important event for film buffs and moviegoers, bringing the best of Arab and global cinema to Madinat Jumeirah. You’ll be rubbing shoulders with directors, producers, writers and actors. Last year’s event saw big name actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Melanie Griffith and Dev Patel on the guest list.
With the recent opening of Dubai Opera in Downtown, it’s easy to add a cultural night out to your next trip. Boasting an ever-expanding lineup from ballet to magic and musicals to, of course, opera, there’s a show for every taste and age range.
