Crowd-pleasing activities to add to your travel itinerary
There is no better place for a fun-filled stopover to catch up with friends than Dubai. With everything large groups could ever wish for, all that is needed is the company. Here are five places perfect to please a crowd.
Maison Mathis, Dusit Thani Hotel Dubai
Belgian-themed restaurant Maison Mathis has made a big splash on the Dubai social scene since it opened in April 2015. While it is an ideal place to hang out with friends at any time (it is open 24 hours a day) and there is certainly something to be said for an evening sampling the extensive menu offering, the best time to head to Maison Mathis has to be for a late breakfast. The restaurant offers breakfast classics such as Belgian waffles, pastries and eggs Benedict, plus drinks for just AED300 per couple.
Friendly rivalries can be settled at the Dubai Autodrome, with a world of energetic activities perfect for big groups of friends who like a bit of competition. The ‘Arrive and Drive’ day experiences provide a host of high-speed activities, including Audi TT and R8 driving sessions, drifting courses as well as indoor and outdoor go-karting options.
And for those who have no need for speed, the Autodrome also has a purpose-built “laser tag” area, the LaserDrome, in which a maximum of 10 players at a time can compete. Think of it as paintballing without the pain – or the mess!
Saffron, Atlantis The Palm
Considered one of the most lively Friday brunches in town, Atlantis The Palm's South Asian restaurant Saffron is tailor-made for big groups of friends who want a good old-fashioned party.
During the week the venue functions as a normal restaurant, however come 12pm on a Friday it transforms into a lively all-you-can-eat-and-drink brunch, with sublime food, good music and dancing. It is packed every weekend, so booking is essential.
Cirque Le Soir, Fairmont Dubai
Fun-seekers who started the day at Saffron can often be found later on in one of Dubai's most upbeat and unusual nightspots: Cirque Le Soir.
Following on from the lead of its parent venue in London, Cirque Le Soir is a celebration of the weird and wonderful, with all manner of intriguing acts performing to the backdrop of banging music, while its guests party the night away.
Shades, The Address Dubai Marina
For those who prefer something a bit more relaxed when catching up with friends, Shades is definitely the place to be. Located on the roof of The Address Dubai Marina, the venue offers stunning views past the serene infinity pool and out over the Marina below.
Shades also hosts a barbecue every night from 6pm, so guests can enjoy an al fresco dinner as they sit back and watch the sun set over the Marina skyline.
