The education sector is one of key importance for the UAE, with the government allocating 20.5 per cent of the 2017 budget, AED10.2 billion (US$2.77 billion), to its development.

Over the past decade, the UAE has developed into a growing education hub ,establishing universities, higher colleges and institutions to offer world-class education in engineering, science and technology.

The UAE boasts the highest number of international campuses in the world with courses in the sciences and engineering, according to the Higher Education Landscape report. it also benefits from a diverse faculty and student body.

Dubai’s education sector in particular attracts billions of dollars in investment and has seen a steady increase in enrollment in K-12 and higher education institutions.

Keeping with the government’s vision of innovation in technology, the education sector has diversified to include future-facing programmes of study. This includes the Dubai Future Academy’s Future Design executive programme. Under this, public and private sector executives are to be trained to adapt to evolving technology including robotics, artificial intelligence, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Furthermore, the emirate’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) launched a smart e-Services portal for universities, schools and training institutes, which gives them direct access to the body. Universities can make use of the services including staff and student registration, certificate attestation and permit renewal, electronically.

Dubai’s smart learning initiative was launched in 2012 to transform classrooms into ‘smart’ portals, creating a digitally connected learning environment in all public schools, equipping students with tablet PCs and high speed 4G networks.
