British-born Jason Atherton is the owner of the restaurant group, The Social Company, under which he has established several popular restaurants across the world, from the UK to Hong Kong and China. He opened his first ‘Social’ restaurant in Dubai, ‘Marina Social,’ a stunning waterside restaurant in Intercontinental Dubai Marina.
Previously, he worked alongside chefs including Pierre Koffmann, Marco Pierre White, Nico Ladenis and Ferran Adria at el Bulli, before joining the Gordon Ramsay Group in 2001. After launching ‘Maze’ in London and overseeing the opening of five more ‘Maze’ restaurants globally, he left Gordon Ramsay Holdings to pursue his own culinary pursuits. His restaurants such as ’22 Ships,’ ‘Ham and Sherry’ and ‘Aberdeen Street Social’ in Hong Kong; and ‘The Commune Social’ in Shanghai have taken the Asian dining scene by storm. In fact, ‘City Social’ in Hong Kong won a Michelin star as well as his flagship restaurant ‘Pollen Street Social’ in the UK.
Commissioned by Absolute Press, he released a cookbook called ‘Social Suppers’ in 2014 and a second book, ‘Social Sweets’ soon followed in 2015. After several successful projects in 2016 such as ‘Kensington Street Social’ in Sydney, a tapas restaurant in the Philippines and ‘Temple and Sons’ in London, Jason was awarded Best Restaurateur in the GQ Food & Drink Awards.
