Dubai International Airport opens new concourse
31 March, 2016
Dubai International Airport (DXB) continues to look towards future growth and the recent opening of the new Concourse D is the latest milestone. The new concourse will increase capacity from 70 million to 90 million passengers annually with the added space for more than 70 airlines that will be based at the terminal.
An estimated $1.2 billion was spent on the new concourse which boasts shorter walking distances, comfortable seating areas along with an extensive choice of retail and F&B offerings. The new concourse is linked to the recently renovated Terminal 1 by an airport train that can hold up to 300 passengers per trip.
DXB also retains the title of world’s busiest airport, handing over 78 million passengers in 2015, a 10.7 per cent increase from the prior year. The forecast for 2016 projects almost 85 million passengers that will visit the airport, partly due to the capacity added by the new concourse.
