  • Authentic Chinese Food with a Beautiful Ambiance and Kind Staff!
We were able to try one of Shangri-La’s signature restaurants, Shang Palace last weekend. Since we have a booking reserve we were able to sit immediately. Make sure to have a reservation online or by phone before visiting as last weekend it was full of hungry diners! Looking at the whole setup, you can clearly tell it’s inspired by Far Eastern décor with great emphasis on red color, some accents of gold along with dim lighting. It was a perfect setting for our romantic date night. But it’s also a great place for those who are coming with friends or families as there were enough tables designed for bigger groups. We were handed a cold towel which was a lovely gesture. While we were ready to try the renowned dishes, we can’t help but also try the other selection as the menu was really extensive. Apart from the main Cantonese dishes, they also have provincial delicacies and other traditional cuisines. Starting off with the soup, we ordered the Shanghainese wonton soup with minced chicken. It was so comforting and a warm pleasure to start the culinary journey at Shang. Next was the appetiser, we opted for the famous dish that trip advisor reviewers are raving about – the crispy prawns with mango-mayonnaise sauce. Without exaggeration but only a pure honest review, it was the best prawn toast we’ve ever encountered! Halfway of the meal, a classic set of 8 different types of dumplings with 3 kinds of sauce was served. Every time a dish was served, they gladly explain the dish or suggest which one is the best sauce for the specific dumpling. The textures of the buns and coverings are just the right side of sticky. It was filling and extremely satisfying that I almost felt full. Then a sizzling bowl of braised rice with assorted seafood in supreme broth presented to our table. With its generous portion, the husband had a slight food coma after :p I can’t blame him though as it was cooked to perfection making the flavors rich and intense. The signature dish and my favorite was the Beijing duck where we ordered a half set. The crispy duck skin served with pancakes, cucumber, leeks and hoisin sauce. It may be looking expensive but it’s all worth it, we assure you. The journey ended with the dessert where deconstructed tonka bean crème brulee, mango and caramel offer a deliciously fresh sweet note to cap off the meal. While everything looks elegant at the restaurant we didn’t feel it was as formal as the hospitality and passion of each staff here were kind and just amazing. The efficient service and beautiful presentation of the food from their world class Chinese Chefs all adds up to the authenticity of Shang Palace. They are prompt in clearing tables, changing plates and serving the dishes in a proper timing. Thanks to the wonderful team of Shang Palace :)
  • lovely lunch package
Oriental cuisine in a lovely oriental ambience . Very easily accessible and a nice menu. Should try the delicious dimsums . The staff makes you feel at home. Had a lovely time with friends .
  • A bit disappointing in the Chinese food
The Hoi An restaurant in the Dubai Shangri La is brilliant so I was quite disappointed that the Shang Palace could not live up to the same standard. The food was quite boring and sometimes the chef made just not the right combination. Being a big fan of Chinese food I would expect a bit more in the Shangri La hotel. The crispy chicken with chili were basically chicken nuggets with chili and peanuts. The duck was tasteless and the desserts were a disaster. In total we had 11 dinner items and only of the starters were worth the trip. All in all no value of money, even with the Entertainer
