  • All in one place
It’s between Dubai Creek and the old Gold Souk. You can find any thing that you need. There is a good variety of electronics, mobiles, clothes, herbals, abbaya,..... Anything you need,. Prices are negotiable.

  • Aggressive, expensive, very not worth it.
I went to Naif Souq purely to buy some thawbs. Turns out this is more a place for abayas, unfortunately, but okay. I first did some online research about prices to expect to pay - I've lived in Asia, I know to prepare for haggling. I learnt around 60-80 Dhs is about standard for an adult thawb. I get there around 1130 Friday. Turns out this is a little early - most stores upstairs were only just opening. Downstairs however, most places were open. Most stores sold only abayas - two or three sold miscellany and only two places sold thawbs. Upstairs looked like textiles - fabrics to make your own stuff - but, as I said, most weren't open, so can't confirm this. I went to one of the two thawb stores and tried one on. The guy was so pushy, trying to tell me what colour I liked. I clearly said I wanted a darker colour multiple times only to be pushed in to white and beige. (Note: their English was actually great - this was not a language barrier thing.) They finally resigned that I wanted dark, so went with a blue. They gave me a size 60, tried it on, fitted okay but loose around the chest but was far too long. 'No no my friend, this is okay' - sure, okay if I want to trip around all the time. Then came the headdress - they put it on me when I didn't want it. I want to buy something comfortable, not appropriate the culture for a costume party. When I say No, I mean No. So, they finally boxed a 58, refused to let me try it on, and asked for 320 Dhs. Ha ha! I told them I knew it should cost 80. They asked me my final price; it was my last day there, so I figured I could afford to be generous and I said 100. They kept all their figures above 260. Suddenly, as I walk away 100 is acceptable. I didn't take it - for me haggling is one thing, principal is another. I walked out of Naif Souq, went to a street store across the road (about half a block up) and ended up buying 3 for 200 from someone far more wiling to help. My takeaway: Vendors in the Naif Souq centre seem to take advantage of the location and the tourist attraction status. Others in the area, who perhaps have lower overheads, are more friendly, more open to hearing the customers while still having the same quality of product and range of patterns/colours. Also of note, the one that I ended up buying from was the only one that I noticed to have children's thawbs.
