  • Honouring women
This was a gem find. Such a fantastic idea to create a museum celebrating the achievements and lives of Arabic women. It's inspiring and the stories I read left me speechless. Very empowering for women. My husband and I really enjoyed our time here. We highly recommend visiting!

  • Worth to visit it :)
I liked this idea to creat a museum in honour of a strong, powerful and educated woman. I think in the 21th century it is really something special. Here you can learn about arabic woman and forget about all western prejudices. I am thankful for that. It was a great experience. Womanpower and equality is very important :)

  • Celebration of women` unique Earth path
Having been studied Gender studies and working years on debunking stereotypes around cultures, I was excited to see Women`s Museum (Bait Al Banat, translated as The Girl`s House) on Dubai`s Google map. Without hesitating, we made a journey to once city`s downtown area called Deira where the museum is located. The museum occupies an actual Emirati house built in the 1950s and is very difficult to find amid the hustle and bustle of Dubai`s numerous souks - especial Gold souk - which surrounds the building. To start with, it is the first museum in the Middle East dedicated to women` special journey. It is an initiative of a prominent local psychiatrist, Dr. Rafia Ghubash (who was listed on Arabian Business Review`s “100 Most Powerful Arab Women” in 2011), and was opened by the Sheikh Mohammed in 2012. We talked with museum`s wonderful staff and learned that despite its name, the museum is about paying tribute and telling the story of what has already been achieved rather than covering stories of oppression, discrimination, feminism, and fight for women rights. Hence the focus are lives of generations of Emirati women; mothers, wives, scholars, politicians, doctors, writers, and poets. All in all, you should come to the museum for an open dialogue; it is not Emmeline Pankhurst kind of battlefield, but a place of calm appreciation, reflection and realisation that same topics flow at different pace in different cultures. It is also a place to celebrate women` shining inner and outer beauty and the uniqueness of their way on Earth.
