But Dubai is also a hotbed of independent boutiques – and we love that our inspiring, fashion-forward local women founded many of them. These shops showcase local design talent alongside global power brands for a refreshing retail experience.
This multi-brand haven lies within the prestigious Fashion Dome of Mall of the Emirates and spans a whopping 2,000sqm. The boutique sells high-end runway collections with both international and local talent in stock, many of which are exclusive to Boutique 1. They range from Missoni, Carolina Herrera and Mary Katrantzou, to leading local designers such as Basil Soda, Maha Lozi and By Sophie. This is the place to shop for special occasions and one-of-a-kind gifts while on holiday.
Founded by a trio of Middle Eastern women, S*uce (pronounced ‘sauce’) is a multi-brand fashion and lifestyle concept based in Dubai, offering a curated selection of contemporary collections. The latest from the likes of Alice McCall, Mother of Pearl and Tadashi Joshi, sit alongside regional and up and coming brands such as OTT, Fillyboo and Arwa Al Banawi. There’s also beauty and lifestyle items, and home interior accessories. Its own ready-to-wear line, Zayan The Label, is known for its hand-embroidered motifs, innovative cuts and modern silhouettes.
If you’re into authentic, pre-loved designer gear, head to the treasure trove that is Garderobe, founded by former fashion buyer Micha Maatouk. Upscale brands you might chance upon include Chanel, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta. Aside from chic dresses and retro-tastic outfits, there’s also a range of inspirational accessories to peruse, including glamorous bags, glittering jewellery and stylish sunglasses from the likes of Chloé and Oscar de la Renta.
Nestled in the creative cool surrounds of the Dubai Design District (d3), Closet Case is a multi-brand menswear store straight from Soho London. Stocking European, Japanese and Asian designer fashion, this is the place to discover cutting-edge trends and stylish labels. Check out the latest from Thom Krom and Uma Wang, as well as signature fragrances by oneofthose and Mad Et Len. Close Case’s curated collections will present something new and unique, whatever the occasion.
Located in Dubai’s hip Boxpark, Urbanist is an uber-trendy store that holds myriad cool brands ranging from Comme des Garcons, Anya Hindmarch and Sophie Hulme to local designers. Expect to find the latest in fashion, homewares, jewellery, art and design. The boutique itself is an homage to contemporary chic, with a subtle Arabian twist. Shop and discover the Urbanist’s distinctly unique edit by its Syrian owner. This is a jewel in Boxpark’s crown.
For an exclusive Dubai shopping experience, check out the independent boutiques housed in beautiful villa properties in the Jumeirah area. At multi-brand store Studio 8, founded by Dubai style maven Sarah Belhasa, you’ll find Indian and Pakistani labels alongside Emirati designers such as Khulood Bin Arab, who is known for her sumptuous, Swarovski-encrusted evening gowns. Paris Hilton even popped in when she was in town filming ‘My New BFF Dubai’. The boutique is also one of the best places to pick up stylish designer abayas and colourful kaftans.
This established multi-brand emporium is the brainchild of Emirati stylesetter Salama Alabbar, who wanted to create a luxury ‘home away from home’. Labels Marchesa, Issa, Vera Wang and Temperley London are sold alongside emerging regional names such as Abeer Al Suwaidi, Razan Alazzouni and Reem Juan. Expect to find everything from accessories to evening gowns, and venture onto the store’s terrace for exceptional views of the Burj Khalifa and the dancing fountains.
Etoile la Boutique
The brainchild of style icon, Ingie Chalhoub, Etoile la Boutique at Mall of the Emirates offers a hot mix of high-end fashion that’s handpicked straight from the European catwalks. Find new labels and clothes by top names in an inspiring space that reflects a baroque-fusion style. The boutique’s interiors were conceptualised by designer Jacques Garcia, where the floors are covered in a custom-made carpet from Brintons UK, and gilded walls are adorned with more than 350 gold leaves.
