Emirates to charge fee for seat selection from 3 October

18 September, 2016

Emirates will begin charging an advance seat selection fee ahead of its standard two-day check-in window for some of its Economy fares starting from 3 October. The new fee structure, ranging between AED50 and AED150, will apply to Economy Class Special and Saver fares, Emirates said. Seat charges will vary depending on the distance of the flight — short, medium or long — and will be per passenger per sector. Those travelling on Economy Class Flex, Economy Class Flex Plus, Business Class or First Class will not be subjected to these charges for advance seat selection. In a statement to Gulf News, an Emirates spokesperson said: “Emirates can confirm the introduction of a minimal charge for those looking to select their Economy Class seat in advance, for tickets issued on or after 3 October 2016. This charge is not applicable once online check-in opens, which is 48 hours before flight departure. At this stage, seat selection is free.”
