Are you supposed to tip in Dubai?

It is standard to tip people in many situations in Dubai, and tips are always appreciated – but it's not necessarily expected. So it's entirely up to you if you leave a tip, but it's usually the best way to express your thanks for good service. Many restaurants in Dubai now add a service charge automatically to your bill, in which case there's no need to add an extra tip (unless you've had really exceptional service). But it's worth checking the restaurant's service charge does go to the staff, as this isn't always the case.

Should I tip at a hotel?

As with everywhere in Dubai, tipping at hotels isn't necessarily expected, but is welcomed. Tips of AED5 to AED10 per bag for hotel porters would be appropriate, especially if they've had to work hard moving your luggage – and tips for housekeeping staff of AED5 to AED10 per night's stay are also appreciated. It's not standard practice to tip for other hotel staff such as front desk workers and the concierge, but if the've provided exceptional service then feel free to offer them a gratuity.

Should I tip hotel housekeeping?

If you've had good service from housekeeping, then a tip will definitely be appreciated. Depending on the hotel, an amount of AED5 or AED10 for each night's stay is about right. As to where to leave a tip in your hotel room, leaving cash under your pillow before you check out is a good way to ensure the housekeeping staff will get your tip.

Is AED20 a good tip in Dubai?

It depends on the context, but generally AED20 will be a pretty good tip in Dubai, especially in situations where it's customary to tip a fixed amount. If you're tipping a percentage, then anything over 10 per cent is usually considered a good tip.
