Bird’s eye view

In the ultimate urban adrenaline rush, Dubai's Xline powers riders off the edge of the W1 Tower, propelling them over The Dubai Fountains and The Dubai Mall forecourt, 90 metres above the ground. Covering a stretch of 558 metres, the zip line keeps thrill-seekers happy with its high speeds and amazing views over Downtown Dubai. Previously invitation-only, future zippers can now pre-book their three-minute ride at the XLine stand in The Dubai Mall – but be sure to book in advance to secure your slot.

Dubai’s biggest sand dune

Remember sliding down the dunes during a childhood beach vacation? Sand-boarding has upped the ante on the rough and tumble activity, with participants able to get up to speeds of 50 km/h racing down sandhills in the UAE”s immense Empty Quarter. Choose a qualified, reputable instructor and package (add on 4WD dune bashing for extra adrenaline), and head out to Big Red – the super-sized dune named for its striking rouged sands.

Make friends with a falcon

Beloved for their razor-sharp hunting skills and keen eye, falconry is a centuries-old Bedouin tradition still carried on today by Emirati families. At the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, a 225 sq km natural reserve, visitors can watch falcons, hawks, and other raptors being put through their paces, ahead of the hands-on feeding time, when trainers explain the birds' significance to desert-dwellers.
