The best spots to catch Dubai’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Whether bursting off the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, or illuminating the sky over the manmade Palm Jumeirah, Dubai’s legendary NYE fireworks are the highlight of the year. If you are staying during NYE, here’s our guide to the best places to catch the spectacular show.

BURJ KHALIFA FIREWORKS | DOWNTOWN DUBAI

Burj Khalifa/The Dubai Fountain
There’s no better spot to watch the biggest fireworks show in Dubai than from the footsteps of the Burj Khalifa, itself. Thousands gather along the waterfront of the Dubai Fountains to catch the spectacular light and water show at midnight so make sure to head down there if you are staying in Downtown Dubai. If you are coming from other parts of the city, arrive as early as 6pm to grab a top spot, or make a booking at one of the many restaurants. Plan ahead as roads and access to the Downtown area are restricted on the night for crowd control.

Souk Al Bahar
Just across the bridge from The Dubai Mall is Souk Al Bahar, a dining and lifestyle destination with many restaurants offering clear views of the Burj Khalifa fireworks show. Again, book ahead.

Burj Plaza
Slightly further down is the open-air space Burj Plaza, which offers an alternative view of the Burj Khalifa. This is a popular spot for families to gather.

Free access

Business Bay
The commercial high-rise district just adjacent to Downtown Dubai also offers great panoramas of the action. A number of hotels, including Taj Dubai, The Steigenberger, The Oberoi and JW Marriott Marquis, serve as perfect vantage points. Take it all in from above from the 71st floor establishment, The Vault (+971 4 414 3000), or look up from the Eloquent Elephant (+971 4 438 3100).

City Walk
Across Sheikh Zayed towards the beach, the hip outdoor shopping area of City Walk boasts what has to be the most head-on look at Burj Khalifa, in all its glory, straight from the central walkway. Also home to a number of eateries, this entertainment hotspot promises a carnival atmosphere come NYE.

Dubai Water Canal
The latest attraction in Dubai, the Dubai Water Canal is sure to be a popular locale to catch the show. With a never-before-seen view of the Dubai skyline (including the Burj Khalifa), this 3.2km waterfront is the perfect place to gather with family and friends on either side of the waterway. There are also three pedestrian bridges across the water. Head down towards the Jumeirah side and you might catch a glimpse of the Burj Al Arab fireworks as well.

Free access

Sheikh Zayed Road
This busy strip is dotted with sky-high hotels and rooftops with eyes on the Burj Khalifa. Some of our favourites are Level 43 lounge at Four Points Sheraton (+971 4 316 9888), 40 Kong at The H Hotel (+971 4 355 8896) and Vii Lounge at the Conrad (+971 50 1696 777).

Other locations
For a more holistic look at the skyline, it’s best to head slightly further away. The Burj Khalifa can be seen in its entirety from the Meydan Racecourse and accompanying hotel (check out the Sky Bubble Terrace, +971 4 327 0000), while the nearby Nad Al Sheba cycling track is another alternative. One secret spot popular with photographers is the patch along Al Abraj Street in the Business Bay area from where you can view the Burj Khalifa across the creek.

BURJ AL ARAB FIREWORKS | JUMEIRAH

Kite Beach/Jumeirah Beach
With the Burj Al Arab as its neighbour, Dubai’s beach stretch is unsurprisingly packed with NYE revellers. Of course, it’s best to get there early - pack a picnic basket and blanket and perhaps get there in time to catch the unmissable sunset before settling in for the night. Kite Beach has a variety of cafe-style eateries, including the ever-popular Salt for scrumptious sliders.

Madinat Jumeirah
Dubai’s modern take on a traditional souk is located right next to the Burj Al Arab, with restaurants, lounges and plenty of open spaces from where you can take in the show. The sought-after spot offers panoramic views of the fireworks from the beach (Shimmers, Mina A’Salaam, +971 4 432 3232), the water (Pierchic, Al Qasr, +971 4 366 6705) and above (Ambar, Jumeirah Al Naseem, +971 4 366 8888) among others.

ATLANTIS FIREWORKS | THE PALM JUMEIRAH

Atlantis, The Palm
Is there a better way to view the fireworks than the source itself? Book yourself into the Atlantis resort or nab a table at the New Year’s Eve Royal Gala and you will have front-row access to the mesmerising fireworks.

Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk
The just-launched 11km boardwalk along the crescent of the manmade Palm Jumeirah will be the place to be on the Palm this NYE. Stretching all the way from the One&Only, The Palm to the other end, the walkway has numerous spots for visitors to watch the fireworks at Atlantis, as well as the Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa from the Rixos-end of the crescent. Bear in mind that access to the Palm is typically restricted to control traffic on NYE.

Free access

Palm Jumeirah hotels
Several of the hotels on the Palm, including Anantara, Kempinski, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray, Rixos and Waldorf Astoria all have prime viewing spots of the fireworks and will host their own NYE soirees.
