Whether you're sat on the sand or nestled on a rooftop – when the temperature dips, Dubai is the perfect place to catch an outdoor screening of your favourite films.
Indie flicks at Cinema Akil
At Cinema Akil, the arthouse haven at the heart of Alserkal Avenue, you can catch everything from classic movies to foreign film festivals. It has one screen inside, complete with vintage film posters, cosy sofas and beanbags, but the venue also regularly hosts outdoor screenings at The Yard at Alserkal Avenue, where visitors can gather and watch films under the stars. Keep an eye on the cinema's calendar to see what's coming up.
New blockbusters at VOX MOONLIGHT
Screenings on the sand at Zero Gravity
Head to Zero Gravity to catch a series of film screenings right on the beach, with the skyline of Dubai Marina and JBR as your backdrop. Relax under the stars on a beanbag or a sun lounger, with a different film showing every fortnight. Entry to the beach club's Cinema on the Sand costs just AED75, and the price is redeemable against snacks such as popcorn, nachos, chicken wings and burgers.
Film favourites at JBR
Revellers looking for a cosy alfresco movie after a day of seaside thrills can catch a family film every weekend evening until the end of the year at JBR Winter Nights. Head over to the promenade with your crew on Fridays or Saturdays for screenings of beloved animations like Kung Fu Panda or hilarious classics like Home Alone. You'll also have the chance to catch live entertainment shows and kids' workshops while here.
Reel fun on the grass at JLT
Across the road, the JLT neighbourhood keeps the action going every winter with Cinema Under the Stars. Movie aficionados can make their way to the community park on most Saturdays between November and March for cosy flicks in a laidback setting. Catch everything from box office hits like Star Wars: A New Hope to forever favourites like The Princess Diaries amid green lawns. The best bit? Everyone is invited to come and watch for free.
