Splash into Dubai’s aquatic wonderlands

While Dubai is home to a wealth of tourist attractions, the city’s water parks are the ones that keep on bringing visitors back time after time. Perfect for the year-round sunshine, the parks have something for everyone, from thrilling rides for adrenaline junkies to idyllic beaches and poolside loungers for those who like to take things a little easier. Here are the best water parks Dubai has to offer.

Set in the sprawling Atlantis The Palm resort, Aquaventure is the biggest water park in Dubai and can boast some of the most adrenaline-pumping rides of any water park anywhere in the world. The park itself comprises two main towers (Poseidon and Neptune), which are connected by a giant lazy river that transports riders between slides.

For those who thrive on adrenaline, the park has a number of options; however, the most hardcore have to be Poseidon’s Revenge and the Leap of Faith. The former closes riders into a see-through vertical tube, before a trap door opens, leaving them to plummet towards the ground, whereas the latter is simply a wide-open, near-vertical drop that only those with particularly strong stomachs dare undertake.

Wild Wadi

Dubai’s original waterpark, Wild Wadi Waterpark has been thrilling Dubai tourists and residents young and old since 1999. It is hard to believe that the park has stood for more than 15 years, though, as the rides are continually updated and the park always looks flawless.

The jewel in the crown of Wild Wadi has long since been the Jumeirah Sceirah – a 120m slide that sees riders hit speeds of 80km/h after being dropped through a trap door. There are also a number of raft-based slides at the park, with the heart-thumping Tantrum Alley, which sees rafts with as many as four people at a time hurtle down steep waterslides, appearing to come perilously close to the open edges, before cascading into the water pool below.

The Beach at JBR

This family friendly entertainment hub on the Dubai Marina end of town is home to The Beach Water Park, an inflatable obstacle course floating on the water comprising slides, climbing walls and trampolines. If you’re holidaying with little ones in tow, take them to the Splash Pad, with fountains, a tipper bucket and climbing frames to keep them happy.

Afterwards, there’s plenty of entertainment around to keep you busy well into the evening. Dry off and head to one of the many restaurants along the promenade, browse the beachside shops and even watch a movie.
