As the countdown gets closer, here are the best places to be as the clock strikes 12 in Dubai.

1

All eyes on Burj Khalifa

Catch a glimpse of the most extravagant New Year's Eve pyrotechnic show at Burj Khalifa. We recommend booking a table at one of the many restaurants in Downtown Dubai, including Souk Al Bahar or Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard for the closest, most unobstructed view of the tower. Alternatively, head to The Dubai Mall to watch the The Dubai Fountain's spectacular light and water show build up to the grand finale at midnight.

If you're celebrating as a family, consider spending the evening at Burj Park – located on a small island out on Burj Lake, the park will play host to a live DJ set and a selection of dining options, with clear views of the fountain shows. For a vantage point out of the ordinary, hop on an RTA Petrol Abra at Al Ghubaiba Station and Al Seef Station at 10pm or Al Jaddaf Station at 10:30pm, to catch the world's tallest tower light up from the water.

With safety measures in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, expect thermal cameras, contactless payments and social distancing at all public areas. Remember to arrive as early as 5pm as roads and access to the Downtown neighbourhood will be restricted on the night as part of the highly-anticipated #EMAARNYE2021 celebrations.

Fireworks and a show at Festival City

IMAGINE NYE

The sparkling Festival City waterfront promenade is all set to stage an incredible show on 31 December. The IMAGINE water, light and sound extravaganza will be specially choreographed for the night, culminating in one of the brightest fireworks displays in the city.

You'll have to plan ahead by confirming dinner reservations at Dubai Festival City Mall restaurants that offer the best views. There's plenty to choose from, including Joe’s Crab Shack, Chilis, Nandos, Semsom and Turkish Village, to name just a few. You can even arrive in style with the family onboard the Al Jaddaf Water Taxi, which will be operating until 1 am on New Year’s Eve.

Alternatively, book a night's stay at nearby hotels such as InterContinental Dubai Festival City and Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City, where you can enjoy the show from the privacy of your room.

3

Celebrate by the waters of Al Seef

Fireworks seef

Looking for a celebratory spot with old-world charm this New Year's Eve? Head to Dubai's heritage district of Al Seef, located by the historic waters of the Dubai Creek. It presents a truly picturesque setting with traditional dhows and centuries-old architecture.

Take in stunning views of the fireworks from waterfront restaurants in the district, such as Skafos that delights with Italian, Spanish and Greek dishes, and ILA that serves up fresh Arabic fare.

4

Island celebrations at Atlantis, The Palm

This iconic Dubai hotel always puts on quite a show to ring in the New Year. Join in the festivities at Atlantis, The Palm by booking a table at one of the hotel's fantastic restaurants and lounges. Alternatively, consider staying the night and watching legendary rockers KISS perform at 'the biggest & baddest concert event and pyrotechnics show of the year' right from your balcony.

The Palm Jumeirah Boardwalk nearby also offers numerous vantage points for visitors to watch the fireworks displays light up the sky, or you can reserve a table at any one of the waterside restaurants at The Pointe, which is also home to the world's largest fountain.

5

See The Beach all lit up

Located just opposite Jumeirah Beach Residences in Dubai Marina, The Beach is like a sunny shoreside resort that anyone can access. Spend New Year's Eve on the sands, while the little ones scramble to stay afloat on the fun inflatable water park, or book a table at one of the hotspot's restaurants before colourful fireworks light up the night sky. Alternatively, see the show from across the water aboard an air-conditioned abra, which leaves from Marina Mall Station promptly at 10:30pm, so arrive 30 minutes in advance. What's more, don't miss the Dubai Shopping Festival Drone Light Show, every night until 30 January, with a New Year's Eve show starting at 8pm.

6

Bluewaters promises an evening of fun

Offering the most stunning views of the city's magical skyline the majestic Bluewaters Island rings in 2021 in spectacular style. With extensive dining options, vibrant roaming entertainment acts, live performances and the region's longest-running drone light show, adding a burst of vibrancy along an already impressive coastline, visitors are sure to find a number of Instagrammable views to welcome in the New Year.

7

See fireworks light up the Burj Al Arab

Guarantee yourself unforgettable celebrations by watching the iconic Burj Al Arab shine under a display of fireworks at midnight. Attend a glamorous gala headlined by Russian singing sensation Lolita for front-row terrace views to the show, or scope out a table at one of the food trucks and kiosks located at Kite Beach next door.

Madinat Jumeirah promises another fantastic vantage point for the highly rated show, with a great many outdoor seating restaurants to choose from. Folly by Nick and Scott is a fan-favourite for contemporary cuisine and a charming terrace, while beach lounge Somersault at Jumeirah Al Naseem puts you right at the foot of Burj Al Arab. And expect fireworks aplenty – the five-star resort is hosting its own showcase around the same time.

Get two shows for one by hopping on the Dubai Ferry to watch both Burj Al Arab and the Palm dazzle at midnight. RTA ferries depart from Marina Mall Station at 10pm, Al Ghubaiba Station and Al Seef Station at 10pm, and Sheikh Zayed Marine station at 10pm. You can even catch a fireworks trifecta with shows at Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab and The Beach by hailing a water taxi from the nearest marine station at 10pm.

8

Live it up at La Mer

Watch as MERex family beachfront destination La Mer transforms into an open-air venue set to enthrall audiences of all ages. It's a great choice for families who want to combine the best of outdoor fun and New Year's Eve festivities with a touch of Paris, as 160 scintillating lights illuminate La Mer's streets.

An ideal choice for families, little ones can jump around Hawa Hawa, La Mer's outdoor trampoline park, or slip and slide all day long at one of the city’s best waterparks, Laguna. With beachside chalets, day beds and watersports galore, it's wise to come early to enjoy a full day of fun. Looking for a restaurant with a view at La Mer? Consider terrace tables at modern Indian favourite Masti, or an al fresco Middle Eastern dinner to remember at Babel.

Sightseeing at Global Village

Global Village Season 25

A culture carnival and global shopping adventure all wrapped into one, Global Village is a season staple where you'll find plenty of entertainment under an open-air roof. While stage shows, parades and traditional performances will delight at every corner and pavilion, 31 December adds its own flair with fireworks when the clock strikes midnight. Travel by foot from China to Jordan and Italy to Egypt, sampling authentic street foods and chasing stunning sights, or enjoy fast thrills on rides, before pausing to gaze up a captivating show of pyrotechnics to mark the end of 2020. The main stage and the gaming area are your best bet for undisrupted views.

Fireworks fun at five-star dinners

Chase bright skies from one end to another at private fireworks hosted by hotels in Dubai. In addition to Atlantis, Palm Jumeirah's crescent will see displays taking place at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray and One and Only Palm Jumeirah. Its sister resort One and Only Royal Mirage will also impress its dinner guests with fireworks – beachside Asian restaurant Eauzone might offer the most splendid seats in the house.

Spend the evening at one of the renowned restaurants Four Seasons on Jumeirah Beach, another location for fireworks, and enjoy double the fun if you book yourself a table at Gala Di Capadanno at La Spiiaggia in Bulgari Hotel & Resorts located nearby on Jumeirah Bay Island. Attend a gala at Park Hyatt Dubai to feed off the fireworks and energy at the heart of the city, but if you want to get away from it all, Jebel Ali Hotel and Bab Al Shams should be on top of your list.

Golf course galas and galore

NYE at Emirates Golf

There is no shortage of fireworks this year, making for a well-lit start for the new calendar. Emirates Golf Course is hosting a gala where the whole family can enjoy a delicious three-course meal while Stevie Wonder and Rod Stewart tribute acts perform all time hits in time for midnight fireworks.

The Address Montgomery offers another splendid landscape to witness a special showcase, so if you want front row seats, call ahead and book a table at Monty’s or Nineteen, which brings sun-kissed Mediterranean shores to Dubai. Watch the 9th and 18th greens at the desert-style Arabian Ranches Golf Club light up in vibrant hues from the Ranches Restaurant in the Spanish Colonial Clubhouse, or venture just a little way down to the Nshama Town Square. While not a golf course, you'll find plenty of family fun and fireworks here.
