Baker & Spice
Eat seasonal, organic food at this Dubai favourite

Originating in London, Baker and Spice first opened at Souk Al Bahar in 2009. Since then, it has become a centre for artisan food excellence. Now, the award-winning food shop and restaurant has expanded across the region to Kuwait and Bahrain.

Located at the base of the Burj Khalifa, the most centrally located Baker and Spice location boasts optimal views of the Dubai Fountain. Offering the same dedication to food with European heritage, Baker and Spice has adapted the flavours of the region into a unique version of local soul food.

With organic ingredients sourced from local farmers, everything is made from scratch in the kitchen. Both ethical and delicious, the dishes change with the seasons and represent a journey through the farms of the UAE.

  • Dear, Yesterday we decided
Horrible experience again!!! Yesterday we decided to go to baker and spice again after being away for some time. We decided we wanted to try a different branch. The one in the Marina. When we entered we found the lady not friendly taking our order of the salad. My wife took a salad with as side the zataar baked potatoes and I took lasagna. The potatoes were so so soggy and oily that my wife couldn’t eat them. My lasagna was drenched in oil. My wife choose the dried tomato with the aubergine with salad. The aubergine tasted like vinegar and alcoholic like when food is expired!!! It was also soggy. My wife always takes this dish because it’s her favorite. We take it from Gold and Diamond park and from Souk al Bahar. So she knows how it should taste. Also that she couldn’t finish afraid getting sick. My lasagna was just drench in oil. When we complaint they said they would tell the manager. We send the potatoes back. When asking the bill the potatoes were on it. Which I refused to pay. It should not have even be on the bill!!! I gave a note of 200 Dhs and got back 40 Dhs instead of 44 Dhs!!! The lady laughed it away but to be honest we couldn’t!!! The quality and quantity of the food is going completely down!!! Also the people working there are totally rude and not polite and friendly. We almost went every week or did take away from gold and diamond park. But to be honest my wife doesn’t want to go anymore. People are not friendly and food is not ok. We don’t know how our favorite restaurant went down in every way.

  • High priced pretentious food no vegetarian options
Visited Baker and Spice at the Souq Al Bahar couple of days back for dinner, had heard a lot about restaurants there and this one had fairly good ratings, was I in for a shock! After 3 starters and 1 main course we decided this place was absolutely not worth it. The cheese platter while sounds good (and you cant go wrong with it), it had 5 different cheeses but 3 pieces of crackers (we ate the rest of the cheese with a fork!). As we had some vegetarian friends, we asked for a vegetarian spaghetti in tomato base, they wouldn't even add extra olives or peppers! And the spaghetti was lumpy, dry and without much flavour (I can make a better pasta !). Another starter, focaccia bread, was clumsily made, unlike authentic Italian restaurants or even unlike food court QSRs, this one came looking like a thin tandoori Roti with cheese on top! Lastly, the main course was chicken Schnitzel which was alright in taste but very small in size and the accompaniment was just a few green leaves. For the price this restaurant charges, the serving size is pretentious and the quality is abysmal. I've had better food at cheaper food court joints, the food that such restaurants peddle in the garb of fine dining is just lame. Also, there's pretty much nothing for vegetarians. Completely avoidable at all cost unless all you're going is for the fountain view!
