  • Truly unforgettable
We had a Dolphin Adventure experience at Dolphin Bay and it was truly an amazing experience. It was lovely to see how the trainers are so dedicated to the dolphins and to learn that they have a higher life expectancy than dolphins in the wild and they really do treat the animals so well. You can tell they are happy and it was so lovely to see. Would definitely recommend this. Only thing was the photos are very expensive and it would be nice if you could get a package of a few different photographs as you could only choose one photo to have in a package.

Used an “entertainer” 2 for 1 offer to take our daughter for her birthday. We’ve been to a similar attraction in Sea World San Diego. Stuff to note: park at the hotel as if you are visiting the water park. Take sun cream and swim gear. If you want to watch they will sell you a pass for about 300aed (£60). There is a golf buggy to take you from the aquaventure turnstiles to the Dolphin complex. Your ticket includes entry to the water park, so make a day of it and get the early dolphin time of 9:30. You will be done by 11 and then you can go and meet people in the water park. The dolphin complex has a central reception area with bathrooms and a Starbucks. YOU DON’T have to pay to sit in this outside area. If your group is using the middle of the three lagoons then you can see them from this free spot. It’s shaded but hot in September. You get fitted out with a wetsuit (if you want full coverage) or a jacket (for just the top half). You are not allowed to have jewellery of any kind on or hair ties etc. The attraction does several different activities. We paid for the basic interaction which is done in shallow water. There is a short video in an air conditioned room explaining where you can and can not touch the dolphins. The group is split into sub groups with about 8 people per group. Our group had very young kids with them. Kids can go on their own if they are 12 or older. Kids must be 13 and above to chaperone other kids. There are two trainers for each group. One trainer controls the guests while the other makes sure the dolphin is looked after and controlled. The control of the guests is done very nicely and there was firm control of two kids in our group to preserve the welfare of our dolphin “Aladdin”. The interaction follows a set routine where the guests are kneeling in the shallow water (the floor is sand lined and makes for a beach-like experience). The water is chilled, the wet suits are useful. The dolphin then swims past the group as the guests lay their hands on. The guests take it in turns come out of the group and have a kiss and hug with the dolphin. Then the line swim happens again. Then the guests choose to either dance or play with the dolphin. Play is fetch with a ball or ring and dance is the guest standing in the shallow water at the “drop off” where the water goes to 3m. The dolphin then tail stands in the deep water while the guest lays their hands on the pectoral fins accompanied by terrible singing of everyone else to such classics as “Barbie Girl”. In my daughter’s case, it was “happy birthday” which was a nice touch. There is then a 2-line show and tell where the guests line up facing each other and the trainer asks the dolphin to float in between the two lines. The training and anatomy etc of the dolphin is taught as a hands on science lesson. Throughout the interaction the trainers were really happy to chat about their jobs, the welfare of the animals and the training they do. The interaction ends with the dolphins showing how high they can jump. After the interaction there are cold showers at the beachside and loads of towels. There are lockers in the changing rooms (but no cubicles). You can take cameras to the beach with you but not into the water. The beach has shade and sun loungers. While we were getting changed I noticed that the trainers moved to the next lagoon along to work with a different set of dolphins. The animals we had been with were busy playing with each other and jumping around in the water, which was nice to see. There is a photographer taking good quality photos but they are expensive expect to pay up to 180aed for a large print (£36). They sell digital packages too which are up to £400. Overall, this was a much better experience than the San Diego visit. The staff were less saccharine and well versed in dealing with guests. The animals seemed genuinely well cared for. The facilities were excellent. It’s designed to wring money out of you. I’d suggest it is a much better way to see a dolphin than similar places with much less real estate for them to exercise in. The day has education on conservation and wild dolphin info too.

  • Dolphin Trek experience Atlantis Dubai
Today my wife and I booked into the dolphin trek experience at the Atlantis. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff who provided us with full details and safety instructions for the trek. I was a bit apprehensive about going under water since I have never done anything like it before but the staff made me feel very safe and comfortable. We really enjoyed the experience of the close interaction with Sol the dolphin and would highly recommend the encounter for all. Thanks Dolphin Bay David
