El Sur
Tasty Tapas At El Sur
At the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina, El Sur is a contemporary, Spanish take on the gastro-lounge experience, dishing out tasty tapas — marinated Gordal olives, garlic and chilli prawns — alongside larger dishes to an eager crowd night after night. At the helm of the kitchen are eight Spanish chefs, and the menu highlights both Spanish classic (paella with vegetables) and Spanish contemporary (Galician-style Octopus with potato foam) culinary leanings. Enjoy your food from the restaurant's Arabian sea-view terrace, as the sun drops below the blue horizon.

  • Embarrassing!!!!
I joined your Saturday brunch on the 15th on a table of 5 people. We arrived and addressed your hostess with the name of the booking she confirmed we had a booking. Another group arrived by our side, she left us hanging there and started dealing with them when moving to the tables asked us to follow them, that was rude and unexpected. Well that set the tone I believe. We sat at the table and nobody came to see us and take orders for drinks. The. brunch was concentrated on the terrace as there were no tables inside. So the two biggest tables there were in the place were ours and another family sitting next to us. Someone spoke to them, their drinks arrived and us waiting and waiting. I managed to speak to someone (there were 2 waiters, 1 supervisor and the hostess running like headless chicken and not really knowing what they were doing. I told the waitress that was not a good start as we still didn't have any drinks in our table and that was already 30 min we were waiting already. I asked to speak to the manager which I've been informed he had an emergency and was not there so the supervisor came to speak to us and was very apologetic about the situation. Orders were taken, drinks start coming and the only thing we had in our table was the gazpacho. Trays of food came and were gone and no food whatsoever for our table. I called somebody else and asked if that was a joke and if they were doing that on purpose. Some more time passed by and finally we got some starters on the table. It was very hard to catch somebody's attention for drinks and food took forever and at some stage we felt like they were holding back and not willing to serve us. I work in the industry and run one of the busiest Friday brunches in Dubai and I do understand the mechanics of a brunch concept and I tell you: yours have wholes the size of the swimming pool downstairs. It's embarrassing. I have no choice but attend Saturday brunches (I always work on Fridays) and I've been recommended your brunch, but to be quite honest it's poor, the quality of the food is average, your staff is not well trained, management is nowhere to be seen (actually towards the end the manager did show up but couldn't be bothered to come and talk to us) and I really embarrassed my friends as I was the one to book the table. I wouldn't expect that from El Sur neither from Westin. Honestly, just stop: don't do it - either do it right or don't do it at all.

  • Best Spanish Restaurant
I was lucky enough to be invited for a private dinner with the Murgaca team who were in UAE for the Gulf food with their Luxury Lamb from Spain. The Dinner was at EL Sur where chef was given the luxury lamb and he curated some of the best dishes with the precious. The menu engages with all the five senses with visually stunning dishes, delight on the palate and aromas of Spain and promises to set a benchmark for contemporary Spanish cuisine We started off with Lamb Parfait with Manchego Cheese - Very Good Lamb Jelly with Cauliflower PilPil and Mushroom Dust - Highly recommended Lamb Croquette - The Best Totally Recommended. Reverse Lamb Sandwich with roasted garlic cream -This was an unique dish I tried for the first time and i was so astonished with the taste. Neck Terrain with Peas Cream and Manchego Foam - this beautifully plated dish was top notch in both looks and taste. Baby Lamb Shoulder with Patata Panderas - The baby lamb was incrediebly tender and spruced up deliciliously. Milky Rice - This was very good with the combination of rice and cream. LOVED IT!!!! The Restaurant is with terrace seating and a spacious, well-lit interior. The atmosphere is upbeat and lively.Staff very effecient and service is very good.
