  • Be prepared & enjoy the atmosphere
I wanted to buy saffron & few other spices, including vanilla pods. Researched at home what they cost me & what I was prepared to pay. Armed with this knowledge plus the fact I don’t like to haggle we went to the spice souk. Fab experience, bought more than we planned but enjoyed it. Got what I wanted & more. Would visit again.

  • Annoying and a complete ripoff
We visited the spice souk as part of a tour yesterday. Our guide brought a few of us to a store with friendly owners who spoke English and German and gave us anything we wanted to see or taste. Up until this point everything was ok, but when it came to payment I was amazed at how stupid they think their customers are. They charged 599 Dhs for a bag of tea, coffee, a few nuts and a small bag of dried fruits. That’s around 150€! I managed to haggle them down to 200 Dhs, which is still a ridiculous price for the amount of wares we got. While walking around the souk you get annoyed by every single shopowner. Avoid this place if you don’t like being harassed every second and don’t like getting ripped off.

  • Not the best experiance
We visited and must say it is not an experience I enjoyed. My daughter was with me who was 11 and it made me feel uncomfortable all the touching and wrapping the scarf around. When you stopped to ask a price you were almost dragged in the store and not given a price until they weighed the item and got angry if you did not accept the ridiculously high price they tried to charge. I would not visit again with children but would go to the old souk as had less sellers trying to intimidate or sell me knock off sunglasses and handbags I did not want.
