  • See, don't buy
I was so excited to go to spice souk and buy unique spices and teas at very competitive prices. As soon as I got there vendors started quoting prices which were very high. I got into one store and started bargaining. Speaking the same language as them, they started giving me very low rates while conning English speaking shoppers in front of me. When we finally paid and left and went to a supermarket I realized how terribly I was scammed. Cloves cost 109 dirhams per kg in the supermarkets for very fine quality. We were charged 70 dirhams for 100 grams in the souk. Can you see the difference? These guys are ruthless. Go there for the experience but don't buy anything because every supermarket in Dubai has the exact same product to offer. Save your money for something more valuable.

Be prepared to be pounced on from the start & don’t be afraid to tell the traders no repeatedly if you’re not interested. However if you’re looking some gifts to take back, this place is just slightly cheaper than the malls lol You can also buy anything ... anything. On more than 1 occasion we were led through back alleys, up stairwells & given secret knocks to access hidden rooms. All to buy a “real” luxury item 😉

I grew up in a third world country and the Dubai spice souk was no different to going to the market on a Sunday. There are few shops with sacks of spices which is pleasant viewing but apart from that not a whole lot to see. Few other shops selling bits and bobs. You could be done in 30 mins. Closest metro is about 10 Minute walk. Or you could take one of the boats - abra - from bur Dubai side for 1 dhiram which is a fun ride. Not top of the priority list. There are much better things to do.
