  • Beautiful area
This area is a must see when visiting Dubai. The only thing is some of the area does have a slight smell to it due to the I assume water, but nothing that off putting and certainly doesn’t taking anything away from how beautiful it is. If you get a chance you certainly have to jump on one of the boats to go round the Madinat area, I would recommend going in the evening time as the lighting around the area is breathtaking. As well of course, as the view of the Burj Al-Arab.

  • Shopping centre styled as a Souk
We were recommended the Souk Madinat by our concierge. It was only a short taxi trip from JBR. On arrival we quickly realised that this isn’t really a Souk in the traditional sense. (We were expecting something more like the traditional Souks in Marrakesh.) Instead it is basically a themed shopping centre. Admittedly the styling is very nice and has a traditional feel, but the shops are permanent establishments interspersed with restaurants. It is possible to do a Abra trip and the canals help connect the surrounding hotels and the Souk. Nice place to have on your doorstep and for a short explore, but don’t expect an authentic souk.

  • Beautiful Souk
Worth a visit just to see. Lovely setting. Plenty of choices for eating. Loads of shops although I found some things a bit more expensive here than other places. Great photo opportunities, especially with canals and abras. I caught a local bus from near Mall of the Emirates Metro Station (No 81 and you can tap on and off using the same card) but easy to get there by taxi or on the Big Bus route too.
